This is an awesome park that is usually closed to the public (SCS residents only) but is open now and the perch are in close and very catchable. Here’s one lucky angler with a nice fish in the park.

Today we visit with Richard in the Shop. Here he shows us an example of a very sucessful perch rig used by many anglers. He says anglers this week are catching their limit (25 fish on the American side and 50 fish on the Canadian side) of perch all over the Lake but especially at the hump near Belle River.

20% Off Sale Now!

Here’s a fish story from one of Captain Dan’s buddies:

Two groups of anglers cruised up to Lake Simcoe in Ontario (about 225 miles from St. Clair Shores). They brought back their limit of 900 of the biggest, fattest, yellow-bellied slabs of perch you can imagine.

And this is the legal limit in Canada – 50 perch per angler per day. There were 9 anglers in the group. So for the two days they brought back 900 fish. All were in the 9 – 13″ range and a couple were close to a pound! Where did they put all those fish for the drive home?

All fish were caught on emerald shiners purchased in Canada at the lake.

As for the perch fishing in Lake St. Clair, it’s been very good if you don’t get blown off the lake. Come on into the store to find out about the hot spots and get 20% off on all 2-hook perch rigs. Dan’s got some plain rigs and some with spinners.

What do you think? Is 900 perch a bit of an over-harvest? Add a comment below.
