The Lake Looks Great!

June 1st, 2011 editor No comments

We think God created bluegills and white bass for kids.  They are fun a catch and not too slimy when removing the hook.  White bass are said to spawn in rivers and windswept lake shores and appear to be school fish so when you catch one you’re likely to catch a lot more.  Best baits for white bass are minnows and small twister baits or baits with an active tail since white bass are sight feeders and eat other fish.   Late May is the end of the spawning season for white bass, but right now, there seem to be millions of them no matter where you go.  Here’s a shot of a youngster with a mess of white bass he and his grandfather caught off the seawall at the GP Farms Pier Park this past weekend.

Your editor finally had a chance to wet a line.  We went out in Dale’s boat and had a field day with white bass near the Dumping Grounds.  We also landed a chunky little smallmouth.  Here’s proof.  And yes, we released him after the grip ‘n grin.

Anglers reported very spotty walleye fishing on the Detroit River last week.  It seems some anglers have never had a worse spring on the River.  Others are landing fish.  Here’s a 7lb 9oz,  29 1/2 inches long walleye caught in the Detroit River by the RenCen.  Bait used was a bubble bee spoon.  This talented angler was hand lining when the fish struck.

Land a nice fish?  Send us a photo and a little story and we’ll include it here.
