Is there any doubt that Lake St. Clair is the greatest freshwater destination fishery in the world? Given these photos, and all the stories we are hearing about size and quantity of muskies being hooked this year, we just have to laugh when others from around the country ask, “Where’s Lake St. Clair?”

It’s here baby, and this is how we rock!

Dale H. from Grosse Pointe and a couple of buddies hooked this 54″ muskie near the weather bouy on Wednesday evening. In just three hours before nightfall, they hooked 10 fish and landed 8 including this one which weighed 37-pounds. Best bait that night was a gold bucktail.

And they missed the MOMC tournament!

The Lakeside Fishing Shop gang got out of the store and went fishing. They were 8 for 10 in four hours of fishing and the best lure of the day was a gold Spanky. That’s Charlie Brown, Captain Dan, young Dan McGherty and Richard Atoms. Come into Lakeside and ask Richard what he used to land his fish.

Walleyes are doing great in the lake, too. Don’t forget them! Best location seems to be south of the Dumping Grounds. Reilly’s harnesses are the bait to buy. Use them with 2-oz. bottom bouncers. Here’s a picture of the hottest blade colors including a new color – blueberry muffin.

Hot Summer Fishing on Lake St. Clair

The fishing has been about as hot as the weather lately. Check out these two bass caught in the lake by Jim Glantzer and Cody Mines. Jim’s fish is 21 1/4 inches long and weighed 5lb, 6oz. He hooked it on live bait. Cody’s fish was also caught on live bait and his smallie is 19 3/4″ and weighs 4lb, 8oz.

And how about this muskie caught by Nathan Giszewski on a Reilly’s nightcrawler rig in the dumping grounds early last week. A fabulous fish and he made the board for the Lakeside Fishing Contest with his catch. It is 50″ long.

Go Deep For Fish This Weekend

Due to the hot weather we’ve had this week, fish are in deeper water. We are getting reports of good bass catches all over Lake St. Clair. The hottest bait seems to be tube baits. Use Deepwater Gobi colored baits with 1/4-oz. jigs. Here’s what to buy at Lakeside Fishing Shop:

For walleyes, head to the casino or the steel mill area. Use pink or purple Reilly’s walleye harnesses.

Muskies are still very strong all over the lake. Best baits now are perch-colored.

It’s a holiday weekend and that means more time to go fishing.

Here’s the latest Lakeside Fishing Contest board. Bring in your fish for a quick photo and weigh-in.

Dominic Opipari leads in the walleye category. He landed his 8 lb., 28 1/4″ walleye in Lake Erie near Breast Bay. He was fishing a Reilly’s Firetiger crawler harness.

Walleyes continue strong on the Detroit River. Either side of the river is good. Anglers are reporting excellent catches down by the steel mill. Wind in the afternoon is a problem. Best advice is to get up and out there early in the day. Best baits are gold jigs and Fin-S minnows.

Bass are also very strong and should continue to be in Lake St. Clair. Go to the 9-Mile tower and Metro Beach. Fish around the Point Huron area there. Also the Jefferson Marina and all the mile roads seem to be fishing really well for bass.

Stories of many smaller muskies this week from the south shoreline of the Canadian shore. Belle River and the Dumping Grounds seem to be best bets. Anglers report that perch-colored baits are working the best.
