Over 800 Bass Caught in One Day!

June 30th, 2011 editor No comments

The weather this weekend on Lake St. Clair promises heat with a low chance of rain.  So get out and enjoy our fabulous Lake St. Clair fishery.

Last Saturday, June 25, the FLW Outdoors bass tournament tour was held at Metro Beach in Harrison Township.  180 anglers (both boaters and co-anglers) participated.  The anglers took off in a staggered fashion at 7:00 AM and were back with their limits of bass at the weigh-in between 3:00 – 4:00 PM.  If each angler averaged 4.5 bass each, over 800 bass (nearly all smallmouth) were caught that day!  That’s a lot of bass.  The largest weighed 5-pounds, 9-ounces.  Surprisingly, no 6-pounders.  The winning weight for a five-fish limit was just over 23-pounds.  Here are photos of two proud Lake St. Clair bass anglers and their fish:

Most bass caught in the FLW tournament seemed to be in the 3-4 pound range

Belle River hump appears to be the best location for muskies and smallies right now.  Also great for jumbo perch too.

The Detroit River has been a bit muddy due to heavy winds this week.  Having said that, walleyes are being taken down by Joe Louis and over on the Canadian side near the sturgeon hole.  Use Rapalas and pencil plugs.  Early in the morning is best.

Canadian authorities are craking down on US anglers fishing in their waters.  Read about one high profile case here.  Beware as you cross into Canadian waters!

This is the last fishing report until the week of July 18.  Your editor is taking time to… go fishing.
