Experimental catch and release for bass - is it working?

Eric Sharp wrote an excellent article in yesterday’s Detroit Free Press regarding the experimental catch and release season for largemouth and smallmouth bass

Sharp writes, “This is the fourth year of an experimental catch-and-release early bass season on inland lakes and the Michigan waters of Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment is monitoring the program for five years to determine if it has no deleterious effects, as anglers have long claimed, or if it decreases bass numbers, as some biologists fear.”

What do you think?  Is the experiment working?  Should it be discontinued?  Please leave a comment below.
