Lake St. Clair Fishing Report

Ice is nearly gone

Ice is nearly gone

No doubt guys will be out this weekend.  In fact, on Friday morning there was a surge of business at the shop with anglers buying shiners.  Some were talking about walleyes soon to come.  There are spots to find ice but as Captain Dan says, “the only safe ice is the ice at the local bar.”  And we heard again about an angler falling through the ice last week.  Be careful out there this weekend.

This is one of two “In-Between” seasons – late fall being the other.  In fact, it seems this is the time of year angler groups are meeting and setting plans for spring and summer contests and fun times.  The Lake St. Clair Walleye Association holds it’s next membership meeting on Wednesday, March 17 at 7:30 at Gino’s restaurant.  The Michigan Ontario Muskie Club holds it’s next membership meeting on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 7:30 at the Bruce Post SCS.  And the Michigan Fly Fishing Club hosts it’s annual spring Midwest Fly Fishing Expo this Saturday and Sunday at the Macomb Community College Sports and Expo Center on the south campus of Macomb Community College.

So oil up your reels and visit your favorite fishing shop for new line and new spring lures.  Captain Dan told us this morning that Lakeside will have a sale of 25% off all ice fishing tackle so come in and stock up for next winter.

A foggy Friday morning on Lake St. Clair
