“Best Year Ice Fishing…By Far”

February 18th, 2010 editor Leave a comment Go to comments

We were in Lakeside Fishing Shop today and happened to overhear Ryan from St. Clair Shores exclaim this to be his best year ever fishing on the ice on Lake St. Clair.

“Best fishing ever,” he said.  “Many fish up to 14″.

That turned our heads.  “Wow!” said Mary.  “No kidding,” said Richard.

Ryan wasn’t kidding.  Most of his fish this year came on beaded spoons.  He likes the Cotton Road area near 21 Mile and Jeffersonand Crocker Road as access points.  Ryan’s also got several hot “private” spots but he won’t fess up to those.

Also heard around the shop:  Mary tells us a “cute young man” came into the shop today and could hardly wait to show everyone the pictures on his phone.  There they were, 100 keeper-sized perch, laying on the ice ready for cleaning.

100 perch!!  Mary says the young angler purchased an electric knife to clean all his fish.

You know what is the best part of hanging around a fishing shop?  The customers.  Fish stories or not, you gotta love the enthusiasm.
