Ice Fishing is On!
Here’s the word from Jimmy at the shop (Captain Dan is at the Novi fishing show this weekend):
Perch fishing is really heating up.
Best perch spots are near Gino’s Surf restaurant in Harrison Township, the boat launch at Metro beach, the spillway area north of the 400 Club apartments near the mouth of the canal, and 11 Mile in St. Clair Shores.
With the ice getting thicker, “Guys are out scouting around,” said Jimmy. Most anglers don’t have to go too far though. At the above sites, fish are close to shore.
Wax worms, wigglers and minnows are the bait ticket now. Use hooks in size 6-10. Or try the jigs Captain Dan showed you in the last video post.
We have heard many anglers coming into the shop day after day now to fill their minnow buckets and tell us a fish story or two. Most perch anglers are getting 8-10 keepers per outing.
The weather forecast for the weekend calls for high temperatures in the low to mid-20′s. More ice coming!

Winter ice is forming along the Jefferson seawalls
We’ve got the bait if you’ve got the time. So come on in and see us.
Keep the tips coming…. doing a great job…. I do like the sample video’s you have on line….

Pat: Thanks for the comment. Please consider sending in your own fishing report or tips. I will publish them with or without your name – that’s up to you. Thanks again.
I am new to this site and do not know the area around st clair lake for ice fishing. I have a retired friend that would like to do some ice fishing, could someone point me in the right direction were you can park and get out on the ice to be able to fish for perch. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Roy.
Roy: Thanks for the comment. One of the best locations to walk-in and ice fish is Metro Beach. Another good location is Gino’s Surf which is a former restaurant. I think they charge $5 or something for parking. It’s in Harrison Township. Use wax worms, wigglers and other bug bait. The Lakeside Shop has them all.
