Where was this bass caught?

Guess where this bass was caughtLast weekend, the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair was the host of one of the area’s  most exciting bass tournaments in years.  Sponsored and organized by Anglers Dream bass team, the event attracted over 110 boats and 240 anglers.  “It’s a winner for sure”, said tournament director Stan Zatorski, president, shown above with a 6-pound smallmouth.  According to their website, Angler’s Dream “has 450 active participants in the bass team tournament trail. We have 22 divisions in the Midwest and are looking to expand.”

The Joe Wong/John Devries team was the big winner.  On the first day they took the maximum five fish with a weight of 23.30 pounds including a chubby bass weighing 5.88 pounds, the largest bass of the day!  On their second day, their five bass weighed 21.05 pounds, the heaviest load of the day.  The duo won $9200 for the first place prize, $1520 for the largest bass on the first day, and $510 for the heaviest stringer on the second day.

So, how’s the fishing this week on Lake St. Clair?  In a word…WINDY!

And what happens when the wind starts blowing?  The water gets roiled up and anglers stop fishing.

Here’s one clue for bass anglers looking for strikes in chopped up murky water – buy ugly baits.  The uglier the better.  Come on into the shop.  We’ll show you ugly!

Also, when the wind lays down at the end of the week, expect the perch fishing to catch on fire.  See last week’s post for perch tips.
