August 3, 2009 Fishing Report

Another beauty - and a great fish too!

Another beauty - and a great fish too!

This fishing report from Captain Ray Novak, Chipmunk IV, out of St. Clair Shores.

July 28, 2009 –

Normally I get back from charter trips in the evening.  Today, I’m home in mid-afternoon because my clients caught so many fish they limited out and we went home.

We fished mainly over on the Canadian side near Belle River this morning and the water was real rough – maybe 3 foot swells.  It laid down a bit and the smallmouth bass were all over dead drifted baits.  We kept 25 smallmouth – one was 20”.  On top of that we caught 15 “jumbo” perch, each between 10-13” long.  The bass fishing the last week or two has been just terrific.

I expect the bass fishing to be strong this weekend and into next week as long as the weather stays good.

Want to know how to catch bass on dead bait?  It’s a secret.  But Ray will tell you if you hire him.
